Ravens Kicker Tyler Loop Hit With Online Abuse After Costly Miss Ends Team’s Playoff Chances

Ravens Kicker Tyler Loop Hit With Online Backlash After Costly Miss

Tyler Loop may want to avoid his phone for a while.

The Baltimore Ravens rookie kicker had a golden opportunity to lock up the AFC North title and punch the team’s ticket to the postseason on Sunday night. With time expiring, he lined up for a 44-yard field goal that would have sent the Ravens to the playoffs. Instead, the kick drifted wide right as the clock hit zero, sending the Pittsburgh Steelers into the postseason and abruptly ending Baltimore’s season.

Almost immediately, frustrated fans took their anger to social media — and they didn’t just stay on football-related posts.

Engagement Post Becomes Target for Abuse

Loop’s pinned Instagram post, a joint engagement announcement with his fiancée Julia from March 5, was quickly overrun with comments after the miss. The post now has more than 12,000 comments, most of them added in the hours following Sunday’s game.

Some of the messages were blunt and cruel. One highly liked comment simply read, “1 job.”

Others mocked Loop with references to his predecessor. A popular GIF shows Justin Tucker shrugging — a painful comparison given Tucker’s reputation as one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history.

Tucker, who previously held the job in Baltimore, was released by the Ravens before the season following accusations of sexual harassment. Loop was drafted in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft to take his place.

Other comments piled on:

  • “Tell him duck his head.”

  • “Are u serious dude.”

  • “Lamar gave you field position and you end the game like that? Literally kicked the post season straight in the trash.. you suck.”

Eventually, the comments on the engagement post were limited, curbing the flood of abuse.

Some Fans Show Support

Not every message was negative. A handful of users pushed back against the pile-on, calling out the hostility.

“Ya’ll a bunch of lowlifes hating in the comments for real,” one person wrote.

Another kept it simple: “U good bro.”

Even so, the wave of criticism highlighted how quickly online reaction can turn personal after a high-profile mistake in a big moment.

Loop Leans on Faith After Miss

Speaking to reporters after the loss, Loop said he plans to lean on his faith and perspective to handle the disappointment.

“Faith is a big part of my life,” he said. “It’s such a fortunate thing to be here. Even going back — just being placed in Baltimore with this team has been the biggest blessing of my life, and I’m super grateful for it.”

Despite the miss, he expressed appreciation for the opportunity and the organization.

Another Painful Playoff Exit for Baltimore

The loss adds another chapter to the Ravens’ recent playoff heartbreaks.

Last season, their campaign ended when Mark Andrews dropped a crucial two-point conversion attempt. The year before, Zay Flowers fumbled at the 1-yard line on what could have been a game-changing touchdown in the AFC championship game.

This time, it was Loop’s missed field goal that will linger in fans’ memories — and in the comment sections — as Baltimore heads into another long offseason wondering what might have been.
