Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is facing criticism after holiday photos of him and his wife Brittany celebrating the Fourth of July went viral.
Kevin Kietzman, host of Uncanceled on KCMO Talk Radio and the Kevin Kietzman Has Issues podcast, took aim at Mahomes for appearing out of shape. Kietzman claimed the quarterback has gained weight during the offseason and urged him to “cut out the fast food.”
“Vacation photos are popping up of Patrick Mahomes, and he’s fat. I’m going to say it, and I’m going to tell you the truth—that’s why you hit the play button. He’s an embarrassment,” Kietzman said. “You’re a $500 million quarterback. You made all these comments in the offseason: ‘We’re going to do our talking on the field, we got our butts kicked in the Super Bowl, we’re coming back with a vengeance.’ Dude, you’re fat.”
Kietzman compared Mahomes’ appearance to that of older men lounging at a pool, adding, “Your belly would look fat hanging out with us 60-year-olds. Stop the fast food. Do a sit-up. Do something.”
While acknowledging Mahomes likely worked on his arm strength and quarterback-specific drills, Kietzman criticized what he perceived as a lack of physical conditioning. “You’re not a kid anymore. You can’t just run through your NFL career eating Taco Bell and Door Dashing fried chicken. It’s time, dude. It’s time,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Mahomes has gone viral for his physique. Previously, he poked fun at the “dad bod” label by partnering with Coors Light in a tongue-in-cheek campaign. In an interview with Time Magazine last year, Mahomes addressed the jokes: “I’ll also say I have a great body for a quarterback. You’ve got to have some padding in there to take the hits that we take.”
Kietzman clarified that his criticism wasn’t entirely about weight but rather about core fitness. He urged Mahomes to “do some crunches” to maintain the elite level expected of a franchise quarterback.
The comments have sparked debate among fans, with some defending Mahomes’ offseason approach and others echoing concerns about whether he’s taking his conditioning seriously.
