UCLA backup quarterback Pierce Clarkson, 21, was taken into custody last Friday in Los Angeles on a felony charge, according to online jail records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was booked and released later the same day after posting a $30,000 bond.
Although the official charge was not specified in the records, The Los Angeles Times reported that Clarkson was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury. A police spokesperson confirmed that the alleged weapon involved was not a firearm.
The University of California’s athletics department issued a statement confirming Clarkson’s suspension. He will remain barred from all team activities until the legal process is resolved.
“We are aware of the charges against Pierce Clarkson. He has been indefinitely suspended from all team activity pending the outcome of the legal process,” the school’s statement read.
Officials added that the Office of Student Conduct will review the case, and any additional disciplinary actions will follow university policy.
Clarkson is in his first season with UCLA after transferring from Louisville, where he served as a backup quarterback. During his two seasons there, he appeared in three games, completing four of six passes for 18 yards, while also recording nine rushing yards on five attempts.
Before signing with UCLA, Clarkson briefly spent time with Ole Miss during the spring of 2025.
